Dr. Fe Del Mundo, the country's first national scientist who invented an incubator made of bamboo which was used in rural areas without electricity, died of cardiac arrest on Saturday morning. She was 99.

Her remains now lies in state at the conference hall of the Dr. Fe del Mundo Medical Center Foundation in Quezon City and will be brought to the Santo Domingo Church on Wednesday, August 10.

She will be buried with honors at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Thursday, August 11.

Aljur Abrenica's lost could be considered a blessing in disguise for young Kapuso actor Alden Richard who replaces the former in the 2011 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry Panday 2.

Aljur had to be removed from the Bong Revilla Jr. and Marian Rivera epic film
because he has previous commitments abroad that are in conflict with his shooting schedules for the movie.

"Yes, it's true. Pero I cannot give details kasi sa MMFF pa yun." Alden confirmed.

"Bale nag-re-shoot na lang kami ng scenes na nagawa na ni Aljur, kasi nakapag-shoot na rin siya ng ilang scenes before. Buti kinaya naman ng schedule," he further revealed.

ABC and NBC networks, third and fourth, respectively, are playing relatively safe. The networks have spent the last week trying to win over critics at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, and critics have always rewarded shows that breaking the rules. But this fall are finding little in the networks and to adhere to champion. Manila, Philippines – The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation team triumphed once more in the International Dragon Boat Federation World Championships in Tampa Bay, Florida.

The 'Dragon Warriors' won the last event of the world championships, the 500-m event in the men’s small boat division.

Their latest victory gave the Dragon Warriors their 5th gold medal, bringing their total haul to 7 medals – 5 golds and 2 silvers.

In heat 1 of the event, the Dragon Warriors defeated Japan and Trinidad and Tobago with a time of 2:38 to advance to the finals.

In the finals, the Filipino paddlers once again stamped their class, smoking Australia, Japan, Italy and Puerto Rico to take the gold.

Australia placed second in the event while Japan came in third.

The Dragon Warriors also set new world records in all of the events that they won: the 1000-m men's event, the 200-m men's event, the 500-m men's event, the 200-m mixed event, and the 500-m mixed event.

Hot off the smash success of “The Social Network,” Justin Timberlake now stars in Columbia Pictures’ acclaimed rowdy comedy “Bad Teacher” which also stars Cameron Diaz in the title role.

In the film, Elizabeth Halsey (Diaz) is a teacher who just doesn’t give an F. She’s foul-mouthed, ruthless, and wildly inappropriate. She drinks, she gets high, and she can’t wait to marry her meal ticket and walk away from her day job teaching middle school. When she’s dumped by her fiancé, she sets her plan in motion to win over a rich, handsome substitute Scott Delacorte (Timberlake) – competing for his affections with an overly energetic colleague, Amy (Lucy Punch). Elizabeth’s outrageous schemes and their wild consequences will shock her students, her co-workers, and even herself.

“On paper, Scott is very, very nice,” says Timberlake. “He seems like your average, rich, blue-blooded guy, and very non-confrontational. That’s actually fun to play, because as Lucy’s and Cameron’s characters get more and more petty, he gets more and more awkward.”

Timberlake says that with the writers on set and a director who encourages collaboration, “Bad Teacher” was a fantastic experience. “The role, as it was written on the page, was really funny. Then, when we were in the middle of a scene, Jake would have great instincts, adding a layer each time we did it. The writers would have very funny alternate lines to build on. All of this helped make the character more and more specific, and, I think, funnier and funnier.”

“I like it best when the comedy is based around character, not gags,” he says. “In drama, if there’s an emotional moment in a movie, it’s because the viewer has followed the character through the journey and it means something to them. Comedy is the same way – if you’ve followed the characters, it makes it even funnier.”

Surrounded by such a funny cast, he says, was a blast. “I’m just a fan, I really am,” he says. “It’s great to play in the sandbox with these brilliant comedic minds.”

Timberlake, of course, has achieved great heights as a recording artist and songwriter, and he gets to parody his persona in “Bad Teacher.” “Scott is asked to join the teachers’ band, Period 5,” he explains. “Scott is everyone’s favorite – sort of the guy that the teachers wish the students were like – so of course they ask him to join. The writers came to me – they thought it would be really funny if there was an actual song Scott had written for Amy. We wanted to see how simple, and bad, we could make it,” says Timberlake.

Inspired by his budding romance with Amy, Scott pens a truly horrible love song: “Simpatico.” “We sat in Justin’s trailer and he played guitar and we started writing lyrics – it was an amazing experience,” says co-screenwriter Lee Eisenberg. “Of course, ‘Simpatico’ is the worst song ever. Justin sings the song in this weird falsetto and he’s looking down at his hands as he’s playing the chords – in the movie, Justin really looks like he just learned how to play the guitar.”

Alden Richards and her crush Sam Pinto's date has finally happened.

Last August 4 Sam was in awe when Alden brought her to the Prestige Cruises in Manila Bay. She thought they were just having a simple dinner and she has no idea that the date will become extraordinary.

US Navy SEALs from the Team 6 unit die after a NATO helicopter crashes in eastern Afghanistan early Saturday during a "quick reaction" mission to assist military personnel pinned down by insurgents in a fierce firefight.

31 U.S. troops, including at least 21 Navy SEALs and seven Afghan soldiers based in Hampton Roads were among the casualties when a helicopter carrying them went down while they were reinforcing other troops.

Although majority of the Navy SEALs who died belonged to the same covert unit that conducted the raid that killed Osama bin Laden in May, U.S. officials say that none of them were part of the team that killed Al Qaeda leader Usama bin Laden.
