Golf fans in many ways have grown weary of the Tiger Woods story, at least as it pertains to all the drama of late.
And yet, they seem acutely aware of the soap opera surrounding his former caddie, made famous through their long winning relationship and who obviously took great glee Sunday by carrying the bag of another victorious golfer, Adam Scott.
How else do you explain some of the comments flowing from the gallery at Firestone Country Club, where Scott put on an impressive performance in claiming his eighth PGA Tour title and Williams proclaimed it the best week of his caddying life?
Spectators chanted Williams' name throughout the back nine as Scott, 31, shot 65 to claim the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational. "Way to call his bluff, Stevie!" one fan yelled. "How do you like him now, Tiger?" said another..http://kannaangel.blogspot.com
It was a surreal scene, made even more so by the fact Williams afterward talked more to the assembled media than in the past 12 years combined, all but rubbing the victory in Woods' face and overshadowing the win by his new boss.
"I've been caddying for 33 years and I've never had a bigger win," Williams said.
Really? None of the 13 majors with Woods were bigger? The Tiger Slam? The 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines?
Williams, 47, said he now has 145 victories as a caddie, and it was clear he was stoked. "It's the greatest week of my life caddying and I sincerely mean that," he said.
Clearly bitterness remains from the way he parted ways with Woods, who dismissed Williams following the AT&T National on July 3, a timeline Williams disputes.sports updates....http://kannaangel.blogspot.com
"I was absolutely shocked that I got the boot to be honest with you," Williams said. "I've caddied for the guy for 11 years, I've been incredibly loyal to the guy and I got short shrifted. Very disappointed."
Williams said he was told of his dismissal by phone sometime after asking Woods for permission to caddie for Scott at the U.S. Open in June. Mark Steinberg, Woods' agent, said in a phone interview on Sunday night that Williams' version was not true.
"Tiger's duties to the AT&T National were complete on Wednesday of that week," Steinberg said. "He went there specifically on that Sunday to talk to Steve in person. He did it after everything was concluded that day."
Steinberg expressed regret that Williams chose the aftermath of a big victory for Scott to go so public with his feelings, and he has a point. In a strange way, Williams became a bigger deal than Scott -- the one who hit the clutch shots and holed the putts to defeat Rickie Fowler and Luke Donald by four strokes.

machine for the fight Saturday night between Fedor Emelianenko and Dan Henderson - two of the biggest names in the history of mixed martial arts - never sped. Henderson is the champion of Strikeforce light heavyweight, but he is 40 years old. Fedor once spent nearly a decade without losing a fight, but it became a two-fight losing streak. So the anticipation was measured for the main event in suburban Chicago. However, in every sense, Fedor and Hendo delivered. ...http://kannaangel.blogspot.com
In a battle that wasted no time in getting the blood boiling and had flashes of animation that saw the two wounded soldiers on the other's fists, Henderson, who led the coup said. After being bloodied and knocked down by an uppercut Emelianenko at the last minute of the first round, then pounced on the Russian aggression, Hendo endured a barrage of wild punches while lying on your back and cover. Suddenly, he grabbed a hold of one leg and smooth inverted position, finishing behind Fedor. Knees, Henderson landed a big hook then for the face, sending Emelianenko belly first into the mat. After a couple of bombs flattened Henderson Fedor, referee Herb Dean jumped out at 4:12 of the first round to declare a technical knockout.
"I was always a big fan of Fedor, and I respect him a lot as a fighter and what he has done for this sport," said Henderson (28-8) later. "To me, this is a great achievement compared to a lot of things I've done in this sport." ....................sports update..http://kannaangel.blogspot.com
To Emelianenko (31-4, 1 NC), a third consecutive defeat fuel speculation that his career is over. Then, speaking through an interpreter, 34 years old, simply said: "It is the will of God."
Fedor can not fight back any other night, but wanted to keep fighting in this case. "I was beaten with clarity, but color was affected directly," he said. "And I found I could have continued. However, the referee decided to stop the fight."
As Emelianenko said those words, the video screens at the Sears Center Henderson showed that uppercut from behind, thrown underarm Fedor was using to fend off the blows, indeed, the land of color and dizzying effect. Fedor's face told the same story.
However, while unemployment was just the result was only part of the history of this struggle. How often a meeting of two legends of the sport out to be a fiasco? Well, this is a suspense right from the start. Fedor and Hendo started immediately, with Emelianenko the aggressor until he met with a left hook to seconds in From there, it was Henderson who took control, first by throwing punches in the center of the cage, and then by neutralization of the heavyweights against the wall, landing knees, elbows to the shoulder. Any question of whether man would outmuscle lighter was answered promptly.
Henderson was the struggle, in fact, until Fedor caught him with a right and then left looking at who sent him into retirement. Then a left uppercut put Henderson on his back, where was that at the height of his nickname. "Dangerous" ........................
"At the end of the fight, he hit me with an uppercut bit," said Henderson, who has won six of his last seven fights, four by knockout or TKO. "I was conscious all the time, I felt that sting a bit, as if he cut me off. I went ahead and got a good uppercut while he was in his hands and knees. I think he did not expect to get that shot down."
As the struggle itself, the stroke exceeded expectations.

Young, the third pick in the 2006 draft, was officially released by the Titans on Thursday and became a free agent by Friday. The Titans announced in January that it planned to cut ties with youth.
The Eagles traded Kevin Kolb with the cards earlier on Thursday, opening a spot for a backup quarterback with experience.
Young backup Michael Vick, with sophomore Mike Kafka left in the third quarterback.
Young, 28, had a 30-17 record in 47 starts with the Titans. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2006 when it was 8-5, and again in 2009 when it was 8-2.
Despite the heavy loss of livestock registration number of young of the race are mediocre - 42 touchdowns, a 42 and 75 interceptions. 5 passer rating, which is the fourth worst of 30 NFL quarterbacks who have thrown at least 1,000 steps from the year 2006 (just ahead of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kerry Collins and Derek Anderson). His 57.9 completion percentage over the same period is also the fourth-worst (ahead of Alex Smith, Collins and Anderson).
Statistically, the best young year after year was last year, when he threw 10 touchdowns and only three interceptions and had a passer rating of 98.6 - the fifth best in the NFL among quarterbacks who threw at least 150 passes.
Young enjoyed some success during his years in Nashville, but also had very difficult times.
He said he considered retiring after his rookie year. Injured in his second year. He was benched for Kerry Collins to its third year. And after a game against the Redskins last year, threw his pads to the crowd after being booed and got into a shouting match with coach Jeff Fisher, an incident which led the Titans to announce that they would to sever ties with him after the season.
Earlier on Friday, when word filtered through the team that the acquisition was likely young, Vick spoke strongly in favor of the move.
"You have to go out and get the best player, no matter what it says about them," said Vick. "You have to have the best chance of winning. So go out and get the best players and give them the opportunity to compete every Sunday."
Vick said head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who helped him to become a quarterback much more effective than he was in Atlanta, could have the same influence on the young.
"It will be a positive effect," said Vick. "I think Vince will mature as a player and I think it will improve. (Near Philadelphia) will help the long term. So I come here and make him a better player, and if you ever need it, he is there to us. If you have a complete list of quarterbacks good, then you have a great chance to win. "

Free agent WR Plaxico Burress met with New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin at the team's facility Friday as the team considers retaining the 33-year-old, according to the Associated Press.
He was released June 6.
Burress met with Coughlin for about 90 minutes, then spent 15 minutes with both Giants president John Mara and general manager Jerry Reese before leaving through a side door.
On the way out, he chatted with several players but was not made available to the media.
Mara said Thursday that the team was a "long ways" from resigning Burress, who was a member of the Giants' 2008 Super Bowl championship team.
The Giants, who have yet to sign free agents Kevin Boss, Amhad Bradshaw and Steve Smith, were without defensive end Osi Umenyiora, who is holding out for a better deal.
Umenyiora said during the lockout -- and swore in an affidavit -- that Reese did not fulfill a promise to renegotiate his contract, which has two years and $8 million remaining.
"I am not taking any question about Osi," Reese told reporters Friday. "He is not here. He knows training camp is open today, He is not here."

For several days, the Jets remained involved, the intention and hope. They were willing to delete millions of dollars in salary cap space to accommodate it. Displayed their coach, Rex Ryan, a recruiter of teachers. And then, like many of her suitors, as expected.
Asomugha response came shortly after 6 pm on Friday, and surprised the Jets, Giants deflated, disillusioned two members of the family of Ryan and shocked the NFL's Philadelphia Eagles swooped in and signed Asomugha, selected Pro Bowl four times and most coveted free agent in a class otherwise impressive, for a period of five years and $ 60 million contract with $ 25 million guaranteed.
It was a rare setback for the Jets, whose aggressive approach Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum has cultivated great expectations, when focused on one player, who is surprised when it fails.
His dreams of pairing Asomugha, 30, Darrelle Revis to form with a dominant cornerback tandem - a crucial position in the defensive scheme of Ryan - Philadelphia ended when apparently shared the same vision. Now is the Eagles, not the Jets, who can boast of having the best secondary in the league, teaming up with Asomugha Asante Samuel and the new acquisition Rogers-Cromartie Dominique, who was acquired from the Arizona Cardinals in the offer Kevin Kolb.

The contract is fully guaranteed, a team source told ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter. Financial details were not available.
The decision came just hours after the Bengals split with the receiver Chad Ochocinco, to call home in New England this season.
The 6-foot-4, 211-pound Green, 22, hails from Summerville, South Carolina, and was taken by General No. 4 Cincinnati. In his first season at Georgia, had 56 receptions, 963 yards and eight touchdowns, and followed up in 2009 with 47 catches, 751 yards and six touchdowns.
Last season, after serving a four-game suspension, which totaled 57 catches, 848 yards and nine touchdowns before declaring for the NFL draft.

What a New England Patriots fan thinks of Albert Haynesworth trade
0 comments Posted by org at 8:52 PMWith Vince Wilfork (notes) at nose tackle, Haynesworth will be filled on the defensive end right. This is a luxury that the Redskins did not have and takes place in New England Haynesworth very different from Washington. I think because of this the Patriots is the most shocking and willing than he was with Mike Shanahan and the Redskins.
Albert Haynesworth as a person
Haynesworth, it certainly has baggage, being known for his on field and off field antics. Although, as we have seen in the past, this is not Bill Belichick can not handle, turn to players like Corey Dillon and Randy Moss (notes).
Despite this, I think Haynesworth definitely be more trouble than Moss was the first time I came to New England. This makes it harder Belichick experiments yet. Even if Haynesworth is out of line too much and fails Belichick will have no problem cutting it.
New England is the place to turn the race around Haynesworth
I think there's no better place for Haynesworth to change their way of New England. Veteran players Vince Wilfork and Ty Warren (notes) playing alongside Haynesworth only complement the efforts of Belichick to put in place. In addition to these players Haynesworth also has his former teammate Alge Crumpler (notes) to keep it under control. As someone in the office, Haynesworth was Floyd Reese, who drafted Haynesworth of Tennessee.
New England is undoubtedly the place for Albert Haynesworth to revive his career. I just hope the Patriots can be buried side with Haynesworth problem is that as a fan I've seen has seen resurgence in both Moss and Dillon on the end of his time with the Patriots.
Gilfix Jake has been a staunch fan of New England Patriots throughout his life.

Why did not Albert Haynesworth?
Now the Patriots will get their chance. On Thursday, the team reports traded a fifth-round pick in 2013 to Washington for Haynesworth, a two-time All-Pro defensive tackle who occasionally incredible, but more often apathetic. The agreement is subject to Haynesworth pass a physical exam, which is no guarantee.
Haynesworth and Redskins coach Mike Shanahan has never clicked. Haynesworth will be remembered as the most expensive bust in Washington's history so far, the Redskins gave him a seven-year contract for $ 100 million in 2009, with $ 41 million guaranteed.
Haynesworth is scheduled to make $ 5 million this year.
"You will see how we do things here, point blank," Patriots defensive lineman Vince Wilfork, told reporters. "We've had kids come here with a rap sheet and [people] say they can not be handled, this guy can not do this, and guess what, it worked out well for us.
"So I do not think it will be a big problem."
It was not only attractive head coach Bill Belichick to spend the day. According to several reports, which are also sold to Cincinnati receiver Chad Twitter Ochocinco happy of all-time leader in receptions Bengals (751), receiving yards (10.783) and touchdowns (66).
Among the most active players in the league in Twitter, Ochocinco was unusually quiet after the operation, simply Twitter: "God is so good."
As of Thursday afternoon, the Patriots had not announced its operations, and none of them had the Redskins and Bengals. That was in line with the opacity of this week's unprecedented last hour of trading. Teams can make trades and releasing players, but are not allowed to sign unrestricted free agents until 3 pm PDT Friday.
Still, handshake deals have happened around the league this week, with the promise of an interesting month of training camps before the regular season starts in six weeks.
Some of the notable moves Thursday:
• In a trade that was telegraphed for some time, he sent quarterback Kevin Kolb Philadelphia to Arizona cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a second-round pick. That came a day after news that Minnesota had a trade with the Redskins quarterback Donovan McNabb. Not long ago, a graph of the Eagles deep once read, 1. McNabb, 2. Kolb, 3. Michael Vick.
• Brad Smith, the versatile receiver for the Jets in New York, reached an agreement with Buffalo, stirring speculation that the bills is often used as a Wildcat quarterback.
• Two quarterbacks starting old were shown the door, with the release of Jake Delhomme and Tennessee Cleveland say goodbye to Vince Young.
• Miami reportedly made a deal with New Orleans running back Reggie Bush for. Nine years ago, the Dolphins made a trade with the Saints for another Heisman Trophy winning running back Williams, Ricky. Although Williams ended up winning a title for land in Miami, the Dolphins have not won a postseason game since making the deal.

It's also good to stretch the seam and make big plays. He was not able to do enough of that in his four years with the Bears, but now after being sent to the Panthers on Thursday for a third-round pick in 2012.
Olsen should have been in the Pro Bowl by now. He has that kind of skill. But he did not have that kind of game plans.
Give the Bears credit for this: If they could make their way round hole square peg, at least recognize it. Matt Spaeth is the type of tight end Mike Martz likes. Olsen is not.
What general manager Jerry Angelo did Thursday was what I wanted to Martz.
Olsen was being lost in Chicago. There was a reception of 25 yards or more last year. There are 127 NFL players who had more than one.
His career bears, Olsen average of 10.2 yards per reception. In the last four years, 35 tight ends best average of at least one season, including such forgettable names as Joel Dreessen, Joe Klopfenstein and David Martin.
Olsen also averaged 32 yards per game during the same period of time. Around the NFL, 21 tight ends had better results in at least one season.
Do not think for a second 35 tight ends, or even 21 tight ends are the most talented receivers Olsen.
"Easily one of the most talented receiving tight ends 10 in the league," said one personnel director of the NFC, he was surprised to see Olsen traded.
Olsen posted a 4.51 40 yards in the 2007 Scouting Combine. His speed translates to the football field, too, making it one of the fastest tight ends in the league.
That speed opposing defenses seemed to affect more than happy the Bears.
"We had a difficult time matching with it," said the man staff. "You always have to account for it, and when they play two tight ends and stretch it, you do not know whether to play nickel or base. It could jeopardize your defense."
Players like Olsen is worth double its plan. But the Bears tried to turn the player. They wanted important in blocking and the lowest in the reception.
Olsen should be a better fit with the Panthers. He will meet with one of his college coaches, Rob Chudzinski, who, curiously, was not interested in becoming the offensive coordinator when the Bears met with the team before last season. If Chudzinski had gotten a job instead of Martz is safe to assume that Olsen would not call the moving vans this morning.
Although Olsen will call a game that feels better, probably will not have a quarterback that fits you best. It may take a while before you start spending Cam Newton and Jay Cutler.
Moreover, the vaunted relationship with Cutler Olsen does not really benefit him as much as I should have. The two seemed to have great chemistry in various parts of River North. That chemistry was less evident a few miles away at Soldier Field.
Cutler lost a friend. Charities Chicago lost an advocate. And the Bears' offense lost an average of blocking tight end.
The Bears made a thoroughbred and tried to turn it into a horse.

Mike Sando: The 49ers have no court in this case. You can simply withhold Gore, as long as they stay away. Gore allegedly approached the 49 on a new agreement had not received the answer he wanted and reacted accordingly. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, has recently played Gore's return to health following a hip injury. For Gore to stay away from the camp seems out of place - he loves the game - but Rosenhaus could see this as a work of great encouragement.
I understand the two positions here. Gore is entering the final year of his contract and will be too old (29) within a year to take advantage of a lucrative long term contract. He would like some security and the ability to finish his career with San Francisco. The 49ers want to avoid setting a dangerous precedent by giving in to public demands for a player.
Quite a few running backs will be hitting the market as unrestricted free agents or victims of the CAP. The 49ers could put pressure on Gore to bring across the clubhouse to visitors. The team might want to do it anyway, considering Gore injury problems last season.
The 49ers are in this for the long term with a coach first year. Gore window closes before the window of the 49 'closes.
Maybe the 49 you can find a creative way to show the respect that Gore has won without compromising principles.
Keep away from camp can buy the additional recovery time for Gore. Is it as healthy as indicated Rosenhaus? The 49ers will not know for sure until Gore reported to camp.

Timely hitting in the last game that helped extend the surge.
With Alexi Ogando looking to add to his streak of wins, Texas will try to complete their first three-game sweep of Toronto in more than four years on Sunday night.
Walk-off of Michael Young just after three consecutive notes at the bottom of the ninth capped a rally Saturday in two runs and lifted Texas to a 5-4 victory. With one out Elvis Andrus scored Mike Napoli suicide squeeze with the tying run.
"We practice [clerk] a lot. It shows our versatility," said Rangers first baseman Mitch Moreland. "We can swing our way out of it, or a small ball, we can not do that. It gives you confidence as a team to know that any situation that is placed inside a team, you will be able to prevail. "
The victory came hours after Texas (58-43) puts the Stars Adrian Beltre on the disabled list 15 days with a hamstring injury. Young and Chris Davis are expected to split time at third base instead of Beltre, the team leader with 76 RBIs.
Although Matt Harrison gave up four runs in 6 2 / 3 innings, Texas ranks second in the majors with an ERA of 1.94 in the second half, just behind the Chicago White Sox (1.87). The Rangers also tied with Oakland in second in the majors with a .297 average while posting a 7-2 record since the All.
Now, looking at the top of their first sweep of Toronto from May 4 to 6, 2007, Texas became Ogando (10-3, 2. 72 ERA) in his attempt to win his fourth straight start.
The right-hander, who lost three consecutive games to close in June, allowed four hits in eight innings of a 7-0 victory over the Angels in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
"It was Alexi. I did not expect anything different. I expected it to launch your game and keep us in the ballgame. Of course he did," Rangers manager Ron Washington Ogando, who surrendered five runs and 13 in his last 21 2 / 3 innings.
Ogando, tied with Colby Lewis and CJ Wilson for the team lead in victories, did not take into account the Rangers 5-2 loss to Toronto on April 28 after yielding two runs and four hits with seven strikeouts in six innings.
Cecil has struggled with Rangers
Brett Cecil (2-4, 5.59), which applies to the Toronto Blue Jays in the last game, has made two career starts against Texas, but they were savages.
On August 31, 2009, the lefty gave up seven runs in five innings but got the win in the way the Blue Jays win 18-10. Then lit up for eight runs in two innings against the Rangers on May 14, 2010 in Toronto. However, Cecil was not the decision of the Toronto Blue Jays rallied from a 16-10 win.
Cecil race against Texas ERA is 19.29.
It lasted at least six innings in four starts since being recalled from the minors last month. Cecil gave up five runs and nine hits in seven innings on Tuesday 6-5, 14 innings victory over Seattle.
JP Arencibia has three hits, all solo homers in six at-bats during the series of Toronto (50-51). Arencibia is tied for third in the majors among rookies with 15 homers.

In a typical summer day, he said, consumption is around 22,000 or 23,000 megawatts, with each megawatt usually enough to power 1,000 homes. The system reaches a maximum around 32,000 megawatts, if all plants are online and transmitters are running smoothly, Slowey said.
ISO New England said immersed in energy stocks yesterday and paid the big energy users to reduce consumption of plant pumps the number of megawatts second highest ever: 27,780 megawatts.

HISTORY: 11 shows to see during summer 2011
Obviously, it remains the best way to see, but thanks to technology advances in HDTV, home seeing now is an acceptable alternative for many people.
In any screen, the acting is excellent (Peter O'Toole and Omar Sharif star), and the film is very exciting (although the story is perhaps a bit unstable).

Five things to watch for (aside from runs) at sports' best All-Star Game
0 comments Posted by org at 11:48 AMThe baseball All-Star Game is still the best all-star show in sports. What sets it apart from other sports is its rich history, something about the pageantry of players wearing their regular jerseys rather than a gimmicky league jersey and, most of all, it's the only one in which the players play the same kind of defense they would play in a "real" game. And given the depressed run-scoring environment of today's game, run prevention might be the star of the show tonight.
The first half of the baseball season didn't just confirm that 2010 was the Year of the Pitcher. It also raised the idea that we have entered the Era of the Pitcher. The Major League ERA has dipped below 4.00 for the first time in 20 seasons, shutouts have not been this common since the DH was instituted in 1973, and the strikeout-to-walk rate (2.22) is the greatest in the 118 years since the pitching distance was set at 60 feet, six inches.
Many of the biggest stars of baseball are pitchers, such as Tim Lincecum, Roy Halladay, Justin Verlander, CC Sabathia and Brian Wilson. Perennial hitting stalwarts such as Albert Pujols, Ichiro Suzuki, Joe Mauer, Ryan Howard, Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter will not even be playing tonight.
The All-Star Game is the ultimate small sample, so anything is possible, especially with the way the ball jumps at Chase Field in Phoenix. But keep this in mind as you watch a parade of great pitchers take the mound tonight: Neither the NL or AL has scored more than five runs in five straight All-Star Games. If the pattern continues tonight, it will tie the all-time All-Star record of six straight such years, set in the last period of a depressed run-scoring environment, 1986-91.
In between the strikeouts, here is what to look for in the All-Star Game tonight:
1. The Most Underrated Player in Baseball
Only one player in the game tonight will have appeared in the past six All-Star Games. No, it's not Jeter, Suzuki or David Wright, whose streaks end tonight. (Jeter was named to the team but is sitting out to take the rest.) It's Brian McCann, the Atlanta catcher who was the MVP of last year's game but gets his first starting assignment tonight.
McCann (.310, 15 HRs, 50 RBIs) is 10th in the National League in OPS and has carried an otherwise weak-hitting Braves team to the fourth-best record in baseball. He has put himself into the MVP discussion. He's made the All-Star team in every one of his six full big league seasons and is still only 27 years old.
Just how underappreciated is McCann? With Mauer breaking down this year, McCann is the best hitting catcher in baseball. Moreover, with 834 games under his belt, his career is starting to look a little like that of Yogi Berra, one of the best catchers of all time. Check out the similarities between McCann and Berra after the first 834 games of their careers, keeping in mind that McCann reached that point one year younger than Berra:
Player G HRs RBIs AVG/OBP/SLG OPS All-Stars
McCann 834 127 516 .291/.362/.492 .854 6
Berra 834 142 602 .292/.347/.490 .837 6
2. Conspicuous Absences
Imagine a team with a $259.6 million payroll and no All-Stars. No need to imagine it; it's true. It's the 2011 Non-Star Team. Even though 85 players have been named as All-Stars, many of the most expensive players in the game won't be in Phoenix tonight.
Here is the list of the most expensive Non-Stars -- one at each position, five starting pitchers and one closer - and where they rank at their position according to average annual value of their contract. And remember, this team doesn't even include Pujols.
Position Player, Team Rank AAV
C Joe Mauer, Minn. 1 $23M
1B Ryan Howard, Phil. 1 $25M
2B Dan Uggla, Atl. 1 $12.4M
3B Aramis Ramirez, Cubs 3 $11.6M
SS Hanley Ramirez, Fla. 3 $11.6M
OF Carl Crawford , Bos. 2 $20.3M
OF Ichiro Suzuki, Sea. 3 $18M
OF Jayson Werth, Phil. 3 $18M
DH Travis Hafner, Cle. 1 $14.2M
SP Johan Santana, Mets 3 $22.9M
SP Carlos Zambrano, Cubs 5 $18.3M
SP Barry Zito, SF 6 $18M
SP Jake Peavy, White Sox 7 $17.3M
SP A.J. Burnett, Yankees 8 $16.5M
RP Brad Lidge, Phil. 2 $12.5M
3. A Right-leaning Platform
When was the last time you saw a baseball game in which there was one lefthanded reliever between the two teams? That's what you will get tonight in the All-Star Game. Only one true lefty reliever made either the AL or NL team: Johnny Venters of the Braves.
NL manager Charlie Manuel does have two lefthanded starters who also will be in his bullpen, Cliff Lee and Clayton Kershaw, but they will need more time to warm than a typical reliever and are not likely to be rushed into the middle of an inning.
AL manager Ron Washington has no true lefthanded relievers and three lefthanded starters he can use out of his pen: Gio Gonzalez, Ricky Romero and C.J. Wilson.
Where have all the shutdown lefthanded relievers gone? Billy Wagner retired. None of the five lefty relievers who made the All-Star Game last year made it back (Wagner, Hong-Chih Kuo, Evan Meek, Arthur Rhodes, Matt Thornton.)
The lefty with the most saves this year is Brian Fuentes of Oakland, who has 12 to go with his 4.82 ERA. Otherwise, no other lefty has more than five saves, though Antonio Bastardo (0.82 ERA, . 103 batting average against) has been a great revelation for the Phillies after three previous closers went down with injuries (Brad Lidge, Jose Contreras and Ryan Madson).
4. The Papa Grande Show
Mariano Rivera has more All-Star saves (four) than every other active pitcher combined. (Only Jonathan Broxton and Francisco Rodriguez have an All-Star save among other active pitchers.) But Washington cannot give the ball to Rivera to save this one, with Rivera resting a tender triceps. Instead, if the AL has a lead, Washington will give the ball to Jose Valverde, who has become one of those classic expressive closers in the mold of Al Hrabosky.
Valverde, who already has lead the league in saves twice, has the most saves (24-for-24) despite questionable control (career-high walk rate of 5.2 per nine innings.) He tends to put too many runners on base and has some trouble against lefthanded batters, but he dominates righthanders (. 172, one extra-base hit) and has a knack for getting out of jams. The drama he can create only serves to increase the intensity of his whoops and dances when he nails down the last out.
Valverde is a long way from Rivera. He is more of the typically pampered modern closer. He has entered a game with runners on only twice this year and has yet to get four outs in an appearance this season. His post-save celebrations have grown increasingly entertaining, so keep an eye on Papa Grande if he happens to get the last out of this game.
5. The Inefficiency of Free Agency
You would think you'd be buying a virtually guaranteed All-Star when you spend big money on the free agent market, especially considering that 85 players eventually are picked as All-Stars. But changing teams as a high-profile free agent adds pressure on a player that can turn his game for the worse.
The most expensive free agents from last winter, Carl Crawford and Jayson Werth, will be at home. Nothing new there. Over the past three off-seasons, 23 players changed teams as a free agent by signing contracts worth $20 million or more. Only four of those 23 big-ticket players made the All-Star team in the subsequent season (Cliff Lee, Adrian Beltre, Mark Teixeira and Francisco Rodriguez).
So tonight you can forget about watching Crawford, Werth, Adam Dunn, Victor Martinez, Rafael Soriano and Juan Uribe. And you still won't see the five biggest free agents who changed teams last year and sat out that game as well: John Lackey, Jason Bay, Chone Figgins, Aroldis Chapman and Randy Wolf.

Gary Mihoces As noted above, poker players entered 2181
third of
Paul Pierce Boston Celtics survived the first round of the World Series of Poker main event with a number of more than 62,000 chips going into Day 2.
four flights (Day 1C) of the World Series of Poker No Limit Texas Hold'em Championship in Las Vegas on Saturday. At day's end, hundreds of people were eliminated from the tournament.
One of the players who survived and advanced: The Boston Celtics Paul Pierce.
The nine-time All-Star started the tournament with 10,000 in chips and ended the day with 63,750, poker blogger Andrew Feldman ESPN.com reported Sunday.
He was scheduled to resume action today with the other players of Day 1C and 1A day progressed.
As a star in the NBA, Pierce stands out with its big game and the passion and excitement that usually exhibit. But at the poker table, which "mixes with the field and quietly raising, folding and calling to the rest of the masses," Feldman writes.
With regard to playing Pierce and his table manners, Feldman also offered these nuggets separate analysis:
He has focused on the task at hand, quietly keeping to themselves and behave more serious offers on the table.
After spending some time watching him play, it is clear that he feels comfortable. With headphones on, acting with precision, but its general behavior is intimidating and adds an element to his game that not many others have.
Pokerlistings.com Pierce said last month that the game has taught him lessons that can be carried with him to the basketball court, once you restart the league.
"It helps me in basketball, to be more patient and be more of a player to think and be smarter out there."
Pierce says the poker experience little, but when asked why he was playing in the main event, which was blunt in his reasoning.
"The award," he said. "Who would not want to try to reach and win that?"
Maybe Pierce. is scheduled to make $ 15.3 million during the 2011-12 season when he played in its entirety, just looking for a way to supplement their income during the lockout. The winner of the World Series of Poker this year will earn $ 8.77 million.

Get 7.11 to 7.11 to 7.11 and has its own summit Slurpee!
Or in other, less number of words of intensive use, the company is offering 7-Eleven small (7.11 ounces) everyone Slurpees on 7 July (11/07) to celebrate her official birthday.
7-Eleven began in 1927 when an employee of the Southern Ice Company of California began selling basic provisions of the spring ice. Soon after, he moved from the ice dock behind the counter and started selling magazines, burritos, and in 1966 Slurpees,!
The stores got their name because it was so radically hours long (for now) opened at seven o'clock and remained until eleven at night. Now, many of 7-Eleven are open 24 hours a day (the store first to do so).
Not all 7-Eleven Slurpees offer free, as many of the stores are franchises owned by small entrepreneurs, who can decide whether to participate or not. But considering that last year same-store sales rose 38% in the flavored ice-Free Day Goodness (also known as Slurpee days) is a good bet that most of them jump on the bandwagon of the freeze.

Actress Hayley Atwell, who appears alongside Captain America, served Esquire about some future projects, and he missed Andre 3000 (born Andre Benjamin) may star in a biopic next Hendrix. "The next step is probably a biography of Jimi Hendrix - an independent film with Andre 3000 of OutKast Jimi Hendrix play," said sleeve. "I do not know, really. Atwell's team is like, let's wait and see."
That is a very substantial role for the rapper, but according to Jason Derulo, the paper was the first. The "I do not want to go home," the singer told MTV UK this week it had to turn down the chance to play Hendrix in order to focus on his new album, future history (later this year).
"Future history is my main goal right now is the greatest achievement of my life so far," he said. "I really wanted to make sure you get the exposure it deserves. It has to be heard around the world. After this album, which is submerged at high speed in the movies for a while. I ultimately will take a break of music. "
We're not entirely convinced either artist could pull Jimi Hendrix, although it more difficult to easily imagine a figure disappearing Derulo iconic as Hendrix. (At least Andre looking guy of the piece. ) But remember when there were like five different biographies of Janis Joplin in the works linked to any number of actresses, Renee Zellweger Zoey Deschanel, and none of them left? Do not be surprised if it happens again with Jimi.
