The Eagles completed a one year contract with two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Vince Young Friday night.
Young, the third pick in the 2006 draft, was officially released by the Titans on Thursday and became a free agent by Friday. The Titans announced in January that it planned to cut ties with youth.
The Eagles traded Kevin Kolb with the cards earlier on Thursday, opening a spot for a backup quarterback with experience.
Young backup Michael Vick, with sophomore Mike Kafka left in the third quarterback.
Young, 28, had a 30-17 record in 47 starts with the Titans. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie in 2006 when it was 8-5, and again in 2009 when it was 8-2.
Despite the heavy loss of livestock registration number of young of the race are mediocre - 42 touchdowns, a 42 and 75 interceptions. 5 passer rating, which is the fourth worst of 30 NFL quarterbacks who have thrown at least 1,000 steps from the year 2006 (just ahead of Ryan Fitzpatrick, Kerry Collins and Derek Anderson). His 57.9 completion percentage over the same period is also the fourth-worst (ahead of Alex Smith, Collins and Anderson).
Statistically, the best young year after year was last year, when he threw 10 touchdowns and only three interceptions and had a passer rating of 98.6 - the fifth best in the NFL among quarterbacks who threw at least 150 passes.
Young enjoyed some success during his years in Nashville, but also had very difficult times.
He said he considered retiring after his rookie year. Injured in his second year. He was benched for Kerry Collins to its third year. And after a game against the Redskins last year, threw his pads to the crowd after being booed and got into a shouting match with coach Jeff Fisher, an incident which led the Titans to announce that they would to sever ties with him after the season.
Earlier on Friday, when word filtered through the team that the acquisition was likely young, Vick spoke strongly in favor of the move.
"You have to go out and get the best player, no matter what it says about them," said Vick. "You have to have the best chance of winning. So go out and get the best players and give them the opportunity to compete every Sunday."
Vick said head coach Andy Reid and offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who helped him to become a quarterback much more effective than he was in Atlanta, could have the same influence on the young.
"It will be a positive effect," said Vick. "I think Vince will mature as a player and I think it will improve. (Near Philadelphia) will help the long term. So I come here and make him a better player, and if you ever need it, he is there to us. If you have a complete list of quarterbacks good, then you have a great chance to win. "
