Nothing seems to slow Barbara Sexton Smith, president of high-energy, intelligent and philosophical action and executive director of the Fund for the Arts, which is responsible for generating revenue for the arts in Louisville "all day every day."

In the course of a year, she and her team will make about 1,000 presentations throughout the community to raise funds for 28 member groups and programs. On average, you will participate in five arts events a week.

"I go to everything. I go to the Kentucky Opera, Louisville Ballet, Theatre Walden, the first stage, Louisville Ballet, Louisville Orchestra and Louisville Visual Art Association shows. I'm always popping into the Kentucky Museum of Art and Office, "said Smith, shaking many of the groups funded in part by your organization.

"For me to be recharged, a new impulse and inspired to start each morning with coffee on my couch facing the Ohio River from my apartment on the top of the building Harbison, at the corner of Seventh and Main," said Smith, who usually shares the cup of coffee with her husband, Lacey T. Smith Sr., a lawyer, whom she considers her best friend.

"But the real inspiration - and the physical place that I like to do when I'm at work - is sitting in my living room surrounded by the beautiful artwork on the wall created by local artists, such as Billy Hertz painting olive trees in Italy, "said Smith, 54, emphasizing the point that visual art is an important part of your life.

Looking out the window with his artwork on his back, Smith was wounded by the Ohio River and the Falls of the Ohio.

"That is the art of God," he said.

In fact, Smith found another place where inspiration and spiritual sustenance every Sunday SanStephen Baptist Church in the streets 15 and Kentucky.

"I'm on a mission to help everyone understand that not only good drive west of Ninth Street - but you'll get energy and inspiration if you do," said Smith, who has been attending the church for seven years.
