Men over 40 prefer a hug with sex and that more are more satisfied, according to a study.
The study by the Kinsey Institute in the United States showed that men who regularly hugged and kissed their partners were three times more satisfied than those who did not.
More than 1000 people in the U.S., Brazil, Germany, Japan and Spain, aged between 40 and 70 years were asked specific questions of gender, and were either married or living with their partners, duration of the average ratio is 25.
However, in interviews on the street of New Zealand men, the results were different. Those wishing to comment, said he preferred sex, or sex and cuddling - but touching alone is not enough.
"You have to have both to have a happy relationship," said one.
The women in the Kinsey study, which is generally assumed to be more emotionally dependent, showed affection had little impact on their happiness levels. They were more interested in sex.
Institute Director Julia Heiman said the men reported happiness relationship in recent years, and women had greater sexual satisfaction over time.
"Possibly, women become more satisfied over time because their expectations of change, or life changes with older children."
Meanwhile, a study that followed 1265 people born in Christchurch since 1977 appears in stating that New Zealand women are promiscuous.
Professor David Fergusson, director of the Christchurch Health and Development Studies, said that half of men in the study had at least 15 sexual partners at age 30, and half of women had at least 10 members. Figures in a similar study reported yesterday Dunedin were 10 men and eight for women.
