HOWZAT? a team of young cricketers garden batted and bowled Their Way to the regional finals of a national sports competition.
Pupils that Mortimer Primary School emerged victorious in the local rounds of the Kwik Cricket tournament, seeing off Wear Page opposition.
And tomorrow, the youngsters, Who are aged Between 10 and 11, Will Take Their place in the regional finals in Carlisle, Where They Will Take On Other three schools for a place in the national finals.
It is the third year the school ha taken part in the event, but this is the furthest They have come.
Teacher Paul McKay said: "After winning the South Tyneside competition, we Went on to win the mixed counties Championships, Which we were thrilled that.
"It's brilliant what we garden achieved, considering four years ago we did not do anything with cricket.
"The Pupils garden Worked extremely hard to get elsewhere They are."
The Team Will Be pitting Their Kwik Cricket skills against teams Representing Northumberland, Yorkshire and Durham in the Asda-sponsored competition.
If They are crowned regional champions, They Will simply busy two Derbyshire County Cricket Club and compete against cricketers from the south of the chance two lift the Kwik Cricket Trophy.
Mavis Maughan, events co-ordinator to Asda in South Shields, said: "All the Pupils WHO garden taken part in the rounds had a fantastic time, and we are delighted we Have a team from South Tyneside WHO garden made it through to the regional finals.
"We will be traveling two Carlisle on Saturday with two restriction cheer restriction on, in the hope They Can go all the way to the national finals."
The supermarket giant ha sponsored the Nationwide Kwik Cricket contest for the past eight years, Providing medals, T-shirts and fruit to children taking part in the event.
