As beloved as the original argument iconic animation incredibly unlikely and Rankin / Bass was the show may be most remembered for giving birth to one of the most ridiculous cartoon characters and irritating television has ever known: Snarf.

In stark contrast to his young pupil, Lion-O, the unflappable and alpha bipedal ThunderCat this irritating fellow nanny was a whiny padded leather patch on all fours and handed out countless batches of himself. "Snarf!" said, too often. "Snarf! Snarf!"

Interestingly, in the faithful adaptation of Cartoon Network's "Thundercats" Snarf more often ears. Upon completion of the dubious phrase, is not as intrusive as expected, and that otherwise does not use verbal language. Curious about what drove the show's producers to change a character that fans love to hate, phoned Michael Jelenice showrunner and producer Ethan Spaulding visual explain themselves.

Q: Can you walk us through your strategy Snarf?

Michael Jelenice: Our strategy Snarf actually changed a couple of times during the course of development. At first, there was a lot of people did not want to appear Snarf. Snarf was very close to getting the ax. And then was reinvented as a kind of cat uphill battle. As a doberman pinscher Snarf version - but a cat. And that kind of development makes sense. But at the same time, it's not really true to what his appeal was. So after that, went to "Let's cut."

Jelenice: I was always an advocate of keeping it because of all the characters from the original series, I remembered Snarf. So I think the commitment was: "We will continue in the show and he is a comic relief as he had always intended, but hey, you know, they keep talking."

Q: What made you ultimately decide to put it back in?

Jelenice: During the course of development, the first thing anyone will ask about when we were pitching was, "What are you doing with Snarf?" Because it is not actually included in the field one way or another. No decision had been made. So it was, well, if we are asking in the room, they'll be asking everywhere. Had to be there.

But before Ethan Spaulding, there was another producer who will work on the project and wanted to make things more serious and realistic.

Until then, it was either going to be bad Snarf-ass or it will not be in it. Once Ethan came on board, the possibility of a Snarf old school became more of a possibility.

Q: Ethan, was surprised by Snarf plan after signing in?

Ethan Spaulding: I understood why he wanted to cut, really. But at the same time, there is a way to make it cool, you know? Because I had a pretty nice design. In the back of my head, I said probably continue. Only he will tone down and be fine.

Q: The version he displays mostly for comic effect cheesy. Therefore, it is more like the mascot of the ThunderCats'?

Spaulding: It's the same role: the old Snarf is in pictures and in spirit. Although not speak English to Lion-O in a straight line, as it did in the original, will speak on your cat, like the sounds and everybody understands, you know? It's like R2D2 and Chewbacca.

Jelenice: I think the result of what we have done is that he does not dominate this show in the same way as it did in the other. He is more of an accent. But he is super charming. Each time the camera cuts to him by a close-up, is very nice. From what I hear, the girls really respond to it.

Q: Have you ever discussed how Snarf, a cat that walks on four legs, it could be very different from Lion-O, a cat that walks on two? Pluto is like the old debate between Goofy.

Spaulding: That's a good question and something to fight. We can talk about it because at the same time, we were like, "Can you ride a horse?" That is, you get to ride a creature. But it's like, wait a minute - and you create exactly what you're talking about. It's as if there are cats with four legs and then there are cats on two legs. What is the science behind that? So we have a bit vague on there on purpose just to keep some mystery.

Some things will not be known. You'll see these mutant animals on Earth Third and you have to accept, because we very detailed. My take on it is that Snarf is just a race older cats and evolved. Something happened there.
