Wells Fargo & Co. (WFC - Analyst Report) has decided to offload its H.D. Vest Financial Services business to Parthenon Capital Partners, a private equity firm. The company has entered into a definitive agreement in this context with Parthenon Capital. However, the terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Wells Fargo had acquired H.D. Vest in 2001. Based in Irving, Texas, H.D. Vest offers investment and financial advisory solutions to over 1.8 million retail investors through an advisor base of over 4,800 securities-licensed tax professionals. Subsequent to the transaction, H.D. Vest's existing management team, headed by Roger Ochs, will continue operating the business.
The deal is a strategic fit for Wells Fargo, which is restructuring its business to optimize its business model. According to the company, the unit fails to align precisely with the business model of Wells Fargo Advisors, the retail brokerage unit of Wells Fargo. However, this sale does not imply a change in the brokerage firm's approach to serving independent advisors through Wells Fargo Advisors Financial Network (FiNet).
While on one hand, Wells Fargo is shedding a business unit, it is also making opportunistic acquisitions for future growth on the other. Let's get something straight: There is no real evidence that the mysterious chupacabra exists. Researchers say it's an urban (or rural) legend, like Bigfoot or the Loch Ness monster.
Not even Jack Crabtree, a retired wildlife biologist from Lake Jackson, Texas, says he believes it. And he has the pictures to prove it.
On July 4 and again two evenings later, Crabtree and his wife, Linda, said they saw a slow-moving, almost hairless animal near the creek out back of their house in Lake Jackson.
"It was immediately clear to me it was a coyote with a severe case of mange," said Crabtree, a 24-year veteran of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. (Sarcoptic mange is a condition caused by parasitic mites that can cause an animal to lose its fur.) "It was obviously sick."
Linda, a retired teacher, took some photos, and Jack passed them on to the local newspaper "with tongue in cheek," he said. Apparently the paper thought he was serious. The photo ran on the front page with a headline about a reported chupacabra sighting, and soon reporters were calling from Houston, about an hour's drive north.
"I've been amazed with the fascination people have with chupacabras and other mythical animals," he said. "I'm really not a believer in chupacabras or Bigfoot or the Abominable Snowman."
Benjamin Radford, the managing editor of Skeptical Inquirer magazine, doesn't believe either, and says he can put the legend of the chupacabra to rest. After five years of digging, he said he's uncovered the roots of the story.
Origins of a Legend
In a new book, "Tracking the Chupacabra: The Vampire Beast in Fact, Fiction, and Folklore," Radford reports that the legend is only about 15 years old, started in Puerto Rico in 1995.
That's when Madelyne Tolentino, a housewife in the village of Canovanas, reported the first sighting to the local news, Radford said. After years tracing the story of the chupacabra, he said he finally reached her through Facebook, via her ex-husband, and interviewed her last year.
Radford said the creature reportedly spotted by Tolentino was about four feet high with wide, dark eyes, thin arms, and three fingers on each paw. It stood on two legs. She also said it lacked ears, had small air holes instead of a noise and feathery spikes on its back.
"She said she only saw it for a minute or two, it wasn't for very long," he said. "But she gave a whole description of the number of toes, eyes, an alien appearance, the teeth and she even noticed that it had no genitals."
Radford said Tolentino's story was picked up by UFO researchers, who spread the story on the Internet, where it went viral. It was featured on a popular Spanish-language TV talk show, and spread worldwide. He said the tale of the chupacabra thrives on the first-person accounts of people who claim to see it -- and the very active imagination of the public at large.
"She said she only saw it for a minute or two, it wasn't for very long," he said. "But she gave a whole description of the number of toes, eyes, an alien appearance, the teeth and she even noticed that it had no genitals."
But Radford said that when he spoke with Tolentino during his research for the book, he found her detailed description of the chupacabra was too detailed. In fact, he said, it was "suspiciously detailed."
And, during their interview, Radford said, Tolentino revealed that just weeks before her mysterious sighting, she had seen the hit science-fiction movie "Species," which features characters that look much like the chupacabra of her memory.
"To me, that was the smoking gun," he said. "It can't be a coincidence that this chupacabra that's now popping up around the world just happens to look exactly like the monster in this sci-fi film."

Jennifer Lopez held out for more than a week before finally announcing that she is also returning to American Idol next season. Her fellow judges, Steven Tyler and Randy Jackson, made their return known at the end of June, but Jennifer wouldn't commit.
Lopez has told everyone that asks that she hadn't decided whether she wanted to return to the popular singing show. According to the Hollywood Reporter, she also expressed hesitancy to BBC's Scott Mills this. "I don't know. I haven't been forced to make a decision and I'm glad about that because honestly I'm very on the fence about it." She went on to talk about how much she loved working on American Idol and with the show's contestants, but added ". . .it's going to come down to me making a choice of what I want to do for the next year. . . ."
Taking time to make the right decision makes sense given how busy the Jennifer Lopez is these days. She is the mother of two young children, a wife, a cosmetic company spokesperson, a singer; the list goes on and on. It's difficult to commit such a big block of time to anything, no matter how much one might love doing it.
Jennifer Lopez will make the formal announcement sometime in the near future. In the mean time her fans and next year's potential Idol candidates can all breathe easier.

Cowboys Roy Williams sues his ex-girlfriend to get the engagement ring back

In talks in London last week, ESPN outbid Comcast Versus-NBC partnership, which could not guarantee a plan to live fully until 2014. After 43 years as keynote speaker of the tournament, NBC run was over.
ESPN will begin broadcasting its live broadcasts next year on ESPN, ESPN2, channel bandwidth, ESPN3 and mobile applications. Also broadcast the final of men and women on ABC at 3 pm EST on the day of the games.
"Living is preeminent," said Ritchie. "To live is the nature of the game now in the sport throughout the world, not only for tennis but for others."
Ritchie said he had in the past talks with NBC about changing its policy tape delay, but gave no further details.
"You understand from my comments that they live is important," he said.
A spokesman for NBC declined to comment on the comments of Ritchie.

Victoria Beckham is to give birth today! The British could not be celebrating the 4th of July quite like some of his famous friends born in the U.S., but will certainly be a moment worthy of fireworks at home Beckham.
Victoria and David Beckham are expecting their first baby girl, and her house was reportedly filled with pink instead of red, white and blue in honor of his arrival. From fashionista Victoria has three children, it is not hard to see what is exciting - her daughter definitely has the potential to become a Suri Cruise with mom so elegant.
July 4th is also a special day for David and Victoria Beckham because it's their 12-year wedding anniversary, and they couldn't ask for a better gift than a baby girl. But of course plenty of gifts will be waiting for Becks' baby when she arrives, including recordings of songs by the Beatles.So the former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham gives her daughter a name spicy, or a musical? I could go to the cinnamon, cloves, pepper, sage, rosemary, or saffron (which is actually quite nice), but really seems as elegant as her Spice Girls days behind it is doubtful that his daughter (who is safe to be a diva) will be called a humble ingredient that can be found on a shelf in the kitchen.

Moreover, Victoria Beckham could also combine the best of both worlds if the name of his daughter after the Beatles song "Cayenne". Some other Beatles-inspired name and include Lizzy Jude, Eleanor, Mary Jane, Sally, Julia, Clarabelle, Anna, Lucy, Sadie, Pam, Martha, Maggie Mae, and Michelle.
If David and his daughter Victoria Beckham becomes part of a recipe or gets its own song, one thing is certain - there will be born in the U.S.. The baby was born by Caesarean section at a hospital in California, giving the family plenty of time to enjoy a star-studded celebration after his arrival. And you will be joining the other "California Gurls" on a "fireworks" filled the night, maybe I should be the name of Katy Perry (Perry would actually be a species of monkey).
