Synopsis:

Two sisters from Beverly Hills learn how the other side lives after their father dies unexpectedly, and they're taken in by their estranged aunt in East L.A. Nora (Camilla Belle) and Mary (Alexa Vega) grew up in a sprawling mansion, so far removed from their Mexican roots that Mary refuses to even acknowledge her heritage. Then, in a flash, their father is gone, and they're both left without two pennies to rub together. Fortunately, Nora and Mary have their kind-hearted aunt Aurelia (Adriana Barraza) to fall back on. Aunt Aurelia only lives a short distance away, but Boyle Heights is so steeped in Latino culture that it may as well be on another planet. Unable to speak a word of Spanish and completely ignorant about their culture, Nora and Mary leave their comfortable world kicking and screaming. But the more time Nora and Mary spend getting to know their extended family, the more they begin to get a sense of what they've been missing by remaining locked in their ivory tower all these years. Before long, Nora and Mary begin to regard their Mexican heritage with a sense of pride rather than shame, and realize that all the money in the world can't buy the happiness of being surrounded and supported by family.

Synopsis:

Jet plays Allan Hui who is a member of the Beijing secret police and is given the role of being the bodyguard for Michelle Yeung (Christy). She needs protection until she can testify in a case against a mobster killing for which she is the only surviving witness. Her rich boyfriend is always away and Michelle initially hates having Jet protecting her. Well, that is until Jet saves her life which means she falls in love with him. Unfortunately, in process of saving Michelle's life a bad guy is killed. This bad guy is Wong's brother (Ngai Sing), who is a Red Army assassin. This makes Wong even more intent on killing Jet and co. The larger than life Kent Cheng plays Uncle Charlie who basically makes Hong Kong police look like miserable, gambling, and overweight, divorced bumbling idiots. But even though he's gambled away all of his son's college fund he gets some money at the end so everyone is happy! Jet and Sing have a big fight at the end and Sing getting killed by his own bayonet.

Synopsis:

On September 9th, the day of the Katakai Fireworks Festival, high school student Hana (Mitsuki Tanimura) comes home from the hospital after six months of treatment for leukemia. She then discovers that her older brother Taro (Kengo Kora) has become a hikikomori (social recluse). Taro used to be tender, smart and proud of his younger sister, but now he even turns his back on her and stays in his room. Her parents act like there is nothing wrong with him.

Later that evening, Hana attends the Katakai Fireworks Festival and observes the town’s youth group happily planning for next year’s event. She decides to get Taro involved with the group in an effort to bring him out of his shell. Hana drags Taro out of his room and to the youth group office. Unfortunately, Taro is not accepted as a member. Hana, nevertheless, is determined to get Taro back into society and helps him find a part-time job as a paper boy & into the adult meetings for the Katakai Fireworks Festival.

With Hana’s help Taro slowly opens up to the world again. Then, with winter approaching, Hana has a relapse with her leukemia. Taro comes to the hospital everyday to visit Hana and soon learns that the Katakai Fireworks Festival is a symbol of happiness for Hana. Taro then takes the initiative to make Hana happy and approaches the town’s youth group once more for admittance …
