Synopsis:

My Own Swordsman is the movie that tell of Qixia town, China, Ming dynasty. Business is getting tougher all the time at Tongfu Inn, run by bottom-line businesswoman Tong Xiangyu, onetime widow of a martial arts hero and now married to younger wannabe hero Bai Zhantang (Sha Yi) and longing to start a family. Also working at the inn are former martial arts heroine Guo Furong (Yao Chen), who is now pregnant by her impoverished scholar husband Lü Xiucai (Yu Entai), and cook Li Dazui (Jiang Chao. Corrupt Revenue Ministry official Pei Zhicheng (Yue Yueli) arrives with his pretty young "ward" Chichi (Zhang Meng) on a mission to forcibly buy up properties to redevelop the town, and after a fracas at the inn in which he almost dies (several times) he calls in professional assassin Ji Wuli (Wang Lei) to kill off Tong and her associates. (Though purely driven by money, Ji has an axe to grind, as his elder brother Ji Wuming killed himself after being tricked by Lü.) Despite her husband's reluctance, Guo is in favour of moving out and buying a property on the quiet west bank of the river which Pei announces will be totally redeveloped, with a five-star hotel. After initially refusing Pei's offer, Tong has second thoughts and tries to soft-soap Pei into a deal by getting the town's only female constable, tomboyish martial artist Zhu Wushuang (Ni Hongjie), to butter him up. However, the meeting goes badly and Pei, suspecting he's under investigation by the authorities, goes into hiding and hires Ji to kill her and her wannabe boyfriend Ye Xiaoliu (Xiao Jian).

Synopsis:

Taiwanese filmmaker Ang Lee took a break from making Western period dramas to fashion this wild and woolly martial arts spectacular featuring special effects and action sequences courtesy of the choreographer of The Matrix (1999), Yuen Woo Ping. In the early 19th century, martial arts master Li Mu Bai (Chow Yun-Fat) is about to retire and enter a life of meditation, though he quietly longs to avenge the death of his master, who was killed by Jade Fox (Cheng Pei-pei). He gives his sword, a fabled 400-year-old weapon known as Green Destiny, to his friend, fellow martial arts wizard and secret love Yu Shu Lien (Michelle Yeoh), so that she may deliver it to Sir Te (Sihung Lung). Upon arrival in Peking, Yu happens upon Jen (Zhang Ziyi), a vivacious, willful politician's daughter. That night, a mysterious masked thief swipes Green Destiny, with Yu in hot pursuit -- resulting in the first of several martial arts action set pieces during the film. Li arrives in Beijing and eventually discovers that Jen is not only the masked thief but is also in cahoots with the evil Jade. In spite of this, Li sees great talent in Jen as a fighter and offers to school her in the finer points of martial arts and selflessness, an offer that Jen promptly rebukes. This film was first screened to much acclaim at the 2000 Cannes, Toronto, and New York film festivals and became a favorite when Academy Awards nominations were announced in 2001: Tiger snagged ten nods and later secured four wins for Best Cinematography, Score, Art Direction, and Foreign Language Film.

Synopsis:

Zhou Yu's Train also known Zhou Yu de huo che is one of the most romantic and modern movies to come out of present-day China. It tells the story of Zhou Yu (Li), a young woman who works as an artisan in a factory painting enamel vases. Love and passion are treated as part of this woman’s birthright, and the film’s embraces are frank and sensual. The story is very romantic; a woman’s right to choose premarital lovers is a given. Zhou takes the train twice a week to visit her handsome lover Chen Ching (Leung), a librarian who wants to become a poet. He is inspired to write poems for her and she wants to publish a book of his poetry. But then he receives an assignment in Tibet, and then she becomes involved with another man she meets (on the train, of course), the veterinarian Zhang Jiang (Honglei), with whom she is at first friends but soon becomes lovers – although she never completely stops pining for Ching. Zhou Yu’s Train is shot in fragmented temporal sequences that tell us the story in a more fluid, though less sequential manner. The story’s central metaphor is the train. Toward the end of the movie, we discover a fourth character, a woman who has been observing Zhou and reading Ching’s poetry on the train. One will be forgiven flashing on images of Diane Lane riding the train on her way home from visiting with her book-loving lover in Unfaithful. Perhaps that’s putting too much of a Western spin on Zhou Yu’s Train, but it just may be a movie that has difficulty transcending national borders.

Synopsis:

With not much advertising done for this film, I thought this was some low budget movie out to grab some quick bucks from the recent Wing Chun sensation. However, I was proved wrong as it turns out that the whole show itself was rather funny and refreshing. Differentiating itself from the usual Wing Chun hero that is serious and tough, the director decided to cast the main lead this time as a tomboyish and humorous heroine. Watch her as she battle for righteous and love, and brings the audiences through her life story in the 110 minutes show. The only flaw I could find was in her 2 best friends final death scene. They are blabbering some conversation that was rather awkward and doesn’t really fit into the picture before dropping dead at the same time. In summary, a worthwhile movie to watch for the weekend.

Synopsis:

Cao, the dark and charismatic leader of a band of bandits, bonded with the dark Ma when this stranger saved his life. At Zhang’s urging, the three swear blood brotherhood. Ma had a dream – he wants to rid China of both the rebels and the corrupt Qing officials. Ma convinces Cao and Zhang on this noble quest and the trio soon engages in many dangerous battles and win. Cao and Zhang return to their native village, and Cao reunites for an evening with his beautiful wife, Lian (starring Xu Jinglei). Synopsis:

The film is adapted from the famous novel entitled Romance of Three Kingdom or Samkok under its original title by Luo Guanzhong which tells about Chinese history at the end of the Han dynasty.

The focus of this film is about life Guan Yu (Donnie Yen), a famous war lord in the era of three kingdoms. Guan Yu, also known as the God Kwam Kong or God of War is one of the greatest and most powerful generals of the Han dynasty in the story of the Three Kingdoms Period.

During the war the three kingdom at the end of the days of ancient Chinese Han dynasty, tomaster the three kingdoms which fought each other and want to master, Major General Cao-Cao who was king of the Wei kingdom (the largest empire the days of it) wanted to recruit a Major General Guan Yu, the famous shrewdness in battle.

However, Guan Yu is a friend and foster brother of Liu Bei, who was king of the Shu kingdom and is the enemy of Cao-Cao.

To anticipate this, then Cao Cao kidnap the wife of Guan Yu and made prisoner. After Cao-Cao led troops and gained victory in battle, Guan Yu decided to save his wife andreturned to join Liu Bei.

In this film narrated how Guan Yu’s face barriers many major and powerful generals in a bid to save his wife and returned to join Liu Bei.

Synopsis:

Yen is a single girl from China working in an IT company in Hong Kong. Overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of this sleepless city, she feels increasingly like a fish out of water. Just when she has almost succumbed to the inevitable prospect of being alone and lonely in this unfriendly place, her fate begins to turn in an unexpected way.

On the day when she finally has the chance to meet him in flesh and blood, however, she discovers to her consternation that this so-called romance has been an embarrassing mix-up on her part. The love notes this guy, Sean, has been writing are only meant for a sexy vixen working at the office above hers. He is oblivious to her existence, let alone their blossoming romance.

Just when Yen is ready to crawl back to her lonesome shell, her fate changes again. She is accosted by a beggar called Kevin in the park and is captivated by the sad expression on his face. They start talking and, before they know it, have become the best of friends. She learns that this starkly handsome beggar was an elite architect who ended up wandering the streets after losing his self. Yen starts helping him rebuild his confidence and get back on tracks.

Months pass. Sean finally gives up his life as a playboy and realizes Yen is the dream girl he would like to spend the rest of his life with. Meanwhile, the rebound Kevin is also planning to propose to Yen at the rooftop of his latest design that was inspired by his love for her.

Yen is no longer alone and lonely, but will she be able to find her true love?

Synopsis:

“Festival” is a romantic-comedy about various couples from the same neighborhood told in a unique code. Jang-Bae (Shin Ha-Kyun) is a macho police officer who cracks down on corruption of public morals. His personal life takes a hit when he discovers a vibrator used by his girlfriend Ji-Su (Uhm Ji-Won). She then starts to enjoy a secret personal life with the help of Ki-Bong (Song Dong-Il), the owner of a hardware store. Ki-Bong brings Sun-Shim into the S & M world of whips & handcuffs. Sang-du (Ryu Seung-Beom) sells fish sausages and has a bright character. High school student Ja-Hae (Baek Jin-Hee) loves Sang-du and even breaks into his home. Kwang-Rok (Oh Dal-Su) is single and a high school teacher. He then discovers his love for women lingerie.

Synopsis:

Jet plays Allan Hui who is a member of the Beijing secret police and is given the role of being the bodyguard for Michelle Yeung (Christy). She needs protection until she can testify in a case against a mobster killing for which she is the only surviving witness. Her rich boyfriend is always away and Michelle initially hates having Jet protecting her. Well, that is until Jet saves her life which means she falls in love with him. Unfortunately, in process of saving Michelle's life a bad guy is killed. This bad guy is Wong's brother (Ngai Sing), who is a Red Army assassin. This makes Wong even more intent on killing Jet and co. The larger than life Kent Cheng plays Uncle Charlie who basically makes Hong Kong police look like miserable, gambling, and overweight, divorced bumbling idiots. But even though he's gambled away all of his son's college fund he gets some money at the end so everyone is happy! Jet and Sing have a big fight at the end and Sing getting killed by his own bayonet.

Synopsis:

During the Ming Dynasty, the Emperor of China possessed one weapon greater than all others, the Jin Yi Wei, an elite force of assassins recruited from street orphans.

Trained in clandestine combat from childhood, the Jin Yi Wei were masters of the 14 Blades, eight being for torture, five for killing, and the last blade being reserved for suicide when a mission failed. Above the law, with a license to kill, the Jin Yi Wei devoted their lives and lethal prowess to the service of the Emperor alone.

When the Imperial Court is taken over by evil eunuch Jia (Law Kar Ying), the best of the Jin Yi Wei, Qing Long (Donnie Yen) and Xuan Wu (Qi Yu Wu), are assigned to steal a list identifying those still loyal to the Emperor. However unbeknownst to Qing Long, the Jin Yi Wei have fallen under the control of Jia, and during the mission Qing Long is betrayed by Xuan Wu and barely escapes with his life.

Now as the most wanted man in the land Qing Long must seek out and rally the loyalists to rise against Jia and restore the Emperor to power. Will Qing Long win the battle in the end?
