Foursquare is a company first iPhone. The application was initially launched in the back of the iPhone in 2009, and new features that are normally extended to the first iPhone. But with a new feature today, Foursquare has shaken things going Android (and web) in the first place.

The new feature is a good thing: Notifications. Unlike push notifications for entries that are used to seeing Foursquare mobile applications, these new reports focusing on other activities in the Quadrangular "beyond the check-in." This means that things such as comments in the check-ins and photos, alerts when friends sign up, email advice, alerts when you're sacked as mayor, a swarm alerts, etc.

But again, just as interesting is the new Android first approach. As noted Foursquare:

At the bottom of the pole, Foursquare reiterates that this feature is Android and Web-only for now, but promises that the iPhone and BlackBerry users will have the new feature "as quickly as possible."

Foursquare has hardly been the only major application for iPhone-first focus in recent years. In fact, many of the most important still do. This confuses some people as Android has a higher proportion of the global market. It could be a sign of things to come for other companies? Or was it simply easier to complete and eliminate this particular feature for Android now?
