Change and Reform bloc MP Farid al-Khazen told OTV on Saturday that the timing of the release of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon’s indictment “is not innocent.”

“One cannot say that everything in the STL is politicized, but one cannot say that its work is completely impeccable.”

He also said that the bloc will have a stance on the issue of the indictment after the bloc’s meeting on Tuesday.

Khazen also said that there was an attempt by March 14 to harm the cabinet before it was formed, adding that attempts are being made to make Prime Minister Najib Mikati’s cabinet fail.

“[March 14] is [counting] on the STL’s indictment to harm the cabinet’s work and make it quit.”

The UN-backed international court on Thursday issued its indictment and arrest warrants for the 2005 assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri, with members of Hezbollah reportedly among those named.

The Iranian-and Syrian-backed Shia group has warned it would "cut off the hand" of anyone who attempts to arrest party members linked to the Hariri murder.

The new Lebanese cabinet was formed in June after almost five months of deliberations between the March 8 parties. The March 14 coalition had announced it will not take part in Mikati’s government.
