Rock and roll singers of fame of old, new, and fiction came together last night at the National Mall to sing as part of PBS 'A Capitol quarter "show for the 235th birthday of the nation.

Little Richard, 78, the "architect of rock and roll" and the first to introduce the funk to rock and roll hit, was joined on stage by cast members of "The Million Dollar Quartet" a new musical about the day in 1956 Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins sat in a famous impromptu jam session that brought together the legends of the music for the first and only time.

But the younger voices appeared at the mall last night, too, belting out all Americans all the songs on their own. Josh Groban sang a song he wrote about veterans at Walter Reed Hospital "war in the country." Matthew Morrison, the series "Glee," sang the original "Still Got Tonight", and R & B singer Jordin Sparks sings "Tonight" from the musical background on U.S. race relations and immigration, "West Side Story." Actor and comedian Steve Martin paid tribute to Paul Revere with a song called "Me, Paul Revere," which tells the story from the viewpoint of the horse.
