Austin Kearns hit a go-ahead, three-run homer in the seventh inning Monday, propelling the Cleveland Indians to a 6-3 victory over the Yankees in New York.
2-0 final ahead of the seventh, the Indians met with four races, winning a victory in the first contest of a three-game series with the Yankees.
The tribe had runners on first and second third with two outs, when Shelley Duncan hit a 2-2 Yankees' starter AJ Burnett (8-7) to right, scoring Grady Sizemore. The next batter, Kearns, then threw a home run that just cleared the right-field wall, putting Cleveland 4-2.
Carlos Santana added a two-run homer in the eighth inning for the Indians.
Josh Tomlin (10-4) limited the Yankees to two runs and three hits in seven innings, issuing a walk and struck out five, and Chris Perez earned his 20th save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Burnett (8-7) gave up four runs and four hits in seven innings effort.
Curtis Granderson socked 23 home run, a solo homer and Nick Swisher added a two-run double for New York.
Yankees Derek Jeter, back in action after being placed on the disabled list on June 14 was 0-for-4.
