the Supreme Court said Tuesday that the state was the biggest catch of the land, depriving farmers of their livelihood for generations.
The Court bench of Justice GS Singhvi and Justice apex AK Ganguly said the farmers' fields were being acquired in the public interest and attention builders to build luxury homes, had nothing to do with the requirement that the common man.
The court made the comment during the hearing in a lot of requests for a number of manufacturers challenging the verdict of the Allahabad High Court which overturned the seizure of land in three villages in Shahberi, Gulistanpur Surajpur and Greater Noida in Uttar Pradesh. The land was acquired by invoking emergency provisions of the Land Acquisition Act.
Justice Singhvi said farmers deprived of their livelihoods after the acquisition of their lands were left with two options - either to live in slums or resort to criminal activities that we witness every day.
The hearing will continue on Wednesday.
