"The film was written specifically taking into account Shahid. Not that I had written the script and then decided on Shahid," said Pankaj told reporters at the launch of the first look of "Mausam" at PVR in Mumbai on Monday.
"I had other scripts and wonder if Shahid could be part of them or a fresh script should be written for him? Decided to write a fresh script and this is how the birth of 'Mausam' took place," he said.
"Mausam", a love story, you'll see Shahid as a pilot and has been associated with Sonam Kapoor in it.
"While writing, there was no girl in my head, was the character that was in my head. I think it was the first actress who approached Sonam for the role, "said Pankaj.
The 57-year-old known for his work on television as the "Office" comedy show and his performance in films like "Maqbool", "Dharm" and "Blue Umbrella", says she has been wanting to direct a film .
"I had wanted to direct a film for a long time. I have run on television for five years. So there was a desire to direct. I was writing for a long time. Do not speak of my direct a film for a long time and here moment came when we decided to go for this movie, "said Pankaj.
He says his film will set new standards in film.
"He has his own commentary to make. Although the effort is to make an entertaining film, which reaches almost everyone, yet have a certain level of presentation that appeals to all and sundry. You will be able to establish some kind of standard of work, "he said.
He argues that being an actor helped him to draw exactly what he had conceived from the couple.
"When I'm in the shoes of a director, I do not think as an actor. I'm just there to support my players and make the best of them. I became aware of it as it had been an actor and I somehow helped to take their work and publicize what he really wanted them, "said Pankaj.
