As trials go, the case of Casey Anthony exploded before our eyes. PRESENTATION OF VERDICT ANTHONY
For some reason, millions of people followed the case of this young woman who waited over a month to report on his two-year-old daughter Caylee disappeared and later found dead.
Tuesday, the jury found not guilty of charges of murder and child abuse Anthony, but Anthony found guilty of four counts of providing false information to a law enforcement officer.
He could face more than four years in prison on those charges.
However, having already served three years behind bars awaiting trial, could also be released when a judge sentences next week.
But on Tuesday, Casey was holding and hugging her legal team.
The acquittal surprised many people outside the court that Anthony was sure he had something to do with the death of his daughter. For many in the legal community, the verdicts of not guilty on more serious charges is not a surprise.
An expert on social media says that people fell for this trial because of all the twists and turns, and because the media made it easier for them to get the fullness of the latest developments in the case.
"It's kind of phenomenon to browse. It is a tragic, almost Shakespearean tragic story. I mean I could not make this stuff up," Kip Wotkyns, Metro State College and assistant professor of communications, said.
Wotkyns teaches the social impact of media on society in their journalism classes.
Wotkyns said fictitious returns and becomes the test kept people glued to their tools of social media and the media agreed to cover all events.
"Once it gets going it starts feeding on itself, and then becomes essentially a media circus," said Wotkyns.
Ten years ago, Wotkyns said that this lawsuit has caught the attention, but social media in development, people could get instant access.
A woman heard the verdict 24,000 feet altitude in an airplane, and there was even a mobile application for updated information on the trial of Anthony.
